Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was cheated out of a movie, according to Penny Johnson Jerald

Though Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which ended in 1999, not all of the character arcs were completed. Kassidy Yates-Sisko, portrayed by Penny Johnson Jerald, was left pregnant and waiting for the return of her husband, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). And Cirroc Lofton’s Jake Sisko didn’t know when he’d see his father again, and Sisko himself had no idea when, or if, he’d return to the mortal world, and he didn’t know that his wife was carrying a daughter.

That information was just revealed in a converation Heavy had with Johnson Jerald who said she did learn that their child was a girl. And though the actress said that the series wrapped up nicely, she admits to telling former executive producer Rick Berman that there needs to be a Deep Space Nine movie.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was perfectly set up for a movie.

Johnson Jerald said she told Berman that “this one of the Star Treks that you really should capture in a movie because what was done here was epic.” And she admits to feeling cheated out of a movie before adding that “it could still happen.”

And it should happen. A movie which shows Captain Sisko returning and fulfilling his promise would be epic because there are so many ways it could be done. And with today’s special effects, a Deep Space Nine film could come alive on screen, and even though some of the characters moved on, most could be brought back for the final resolution of the series that ran for seven seasons.

With Johnson Jerald believing that it could still happen, it’s only a matter of getting the right people to say the same thing and then acting on it. All Deep Space Nine fans want a clear resolution to the series, and that means a reunion between Captain Sisko and his family.
