The Orville: New Horizons dropped on Disney+ on August 10th.

The Seth MacFarlane created series, The Orville: New Horizons, wrapped up season three on Hulu on August 4, 2022 without a renewal announcement. Fortunately, there wasn’t a cancellation, either, and that’s largely in part to what was going to happen just six days later. The series debuted all three seasons on Disney+ on August 10th, a move which MacFarlane called a “potential gamechanger.”

The day after The Orville arrived on Disney+, DigitalTrends named it as one of the best shows on the streaming channel at the time (August 2022). It was included along with I Am Groot and Obi-Wan Kenobi, putting it in very good company. And just one day later, an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter, John A. Reed, noticed the series had moved into the #8 spot for the Top Ten on Disney+ in the United States for August 12, 2022, and he posted the results on Twitter for fans to rejoice.

The Orville: New Horizons should be one step closer to renewal.

There’s no denying that The Orville is an expensive series to produce. WhatsonDisneyPlus reported that season three cost Disney $50 million, but it added that this series could be the Disney’s next big franchise. (The article is a worthy read for all The Orville fans!) When you’re looking at the next Marvel, there’s going to be money involved, and Disney’s investment in season three really paid off for the fans as it was by and large the best season of the series. The longer run times, the special effects, the tightly-written scripts, and the cohesive cast that knows how to wring every drop of emotion out of a scene all combined into an unforgettable season.

We don’t know what the guidelines are for Disney to renew The Orville, but, hopefully, the ongoing cry for #RenewtheOrville on social media will factor into the streaming channel’s decision. Well, that and the millions of eyes that are now watching on Disney+
