Terry Farrell should come back to Star Trek but Jadzia Dax shouldn’t

Terry Farrell wants to bring Jadzia Dax back to live in Star Trek.

Terry Farrell is returning from acting after taking nearly two decades off to raise her son and be a stay-at-home mom. That’s pretty neat. Farrell, famous for her role on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Jadzia Dax, would love to return to Star Trek.

Farrell told the audience at the 56-Year Mission Star Trek convention in Las Vegas that not only does she want to return to Star Trek but she wants to return as Jadzia Dax.

"I was actually thinking about how Spock died. Didn’t he melt, basically? He saved everyone’s life. And then he just came back… and there he was. And Kirk kind of went, “Oh, there he is.”  And everyone nodded and said, “Yes, he’s back!” I want that moment for me…"

For those who don’t know, Jadzia Dax was killed off in the season six finale of Deep Space Nine. As the character was a member of the Trill species and the host of the Dax symbiote, a new character came into play called Ezri Dax. A new host for the same Trill symbiote.

While it’s always possible the Prophets, near-omnipotent aliens celebrated as gods, could bring her back, it’s far more likely that a new character could be used.

Bring back Terry Farrell but leave Jadzia Dax behind

It’s a bold move to compare your character to Spock’s. It’s also one that doesn’t have the same fan resonance. Spock’s death in Wrath of Khan would have ruined the franchise had it stuck. The death of Jadzia was a minor annoyance.

Farrell is a good actress, however, and we’re all about propping up the legends that came before, so bringing Farrell back to Trek works. She could debut in Strange New Worlds, do voice-over content for Prodigy and Strange New Worlds, or even hop into one of the other two new series in development.

What we don’t need, however, is Jadzia back. She was a fine character but I don’t think the fan demand of her coming back is that loud. Maybe in a Deep Space Nine reboot/continuation series; sure, but outside of that there’s really no point. Her story is over, and that’s ok.
