There are talks with Kate Mulgrew of a Star Trek: Janeway series
Kate Mulgrew is as popular now as she was during her run on Star Trek: Voyager.
Since she reigned as Captain Kathryn Janeway aboard the Voyager on Star Trek: Voyager for seven years, Kate Mulgrew has remained a fan favorite captain. After a successful run on Orange is the New Black for which she received her first Emmy nomination, she returned to the Trek franchise playing an animated version of herself in Star Trek: Prodigy. Her presence on the juvenile series drew in Voyager fans and has helped to make Prodigy even more popular. Mulgrew has also appeared as Admiral Janeway on Prodigy and possibly could even appear as another version of herself besides the Captain Janeway hologram.
But could Janeway be returning to her own series? When asked this question at Star Trek: Las Vegas 2022, [via Trekcentral] Mulgrew confirmed there have been talks. Though she hasn’t been offered anything directly, the actress said the powers-that-be are looking at Star Trek: Picard and the value of the series, but a Janeway series would be ultimately up to fans as much as herself.
Fan support could create a Star Trek: Janeway series for Kate Mulgrew
Fan support is the reason Star Trek: Strange New Worlds exists. After their appearance on Star Trek: Discovery, Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romjin were offered a spin-off series, which has been very successful. So it won’t be surprising if this is the next idea.
Should should a series arise, hopefully, the creatives won’t retire Admiral Janeway as they did Admiral Picard and will still have her actively involved in Starfleet. Fans are more interested in action and adventure than a character’s retirement period. And while Picard has had some rollicking aventures since his retirement, he should have taken Captain Kirk’s advice and never let them take him off the Enterprise. (Of course, we all know that wasn’t really his decision.)
Prodigy has established Janeway aboard the USS Dauntless, and while that might only be for her search for Captain Chakotay, it could work for the long-term as well. Having an admiral helm a starship might be unique for Starfleet, but there are ways to make it work. And a Janeway series would bring back even more Star Trek fans.
What do you think about a Star Trek: Janeway series? Would you watch?
