Kate Mulgrew has had conversations about a live action return to Star Trek.

Kate Mulgrew is currently portraying her well-known character, Captain Janeway and the higher-ranking Admiral Janeway on Star Trek: Prodigy which returns on October 27th. Mulgrew acknowledged at a panel at the Star Trek: Las Vegas 2022 that there have been talks about bringing her character back to live-action in a potential Star Trek: Janeway series.

Most recently, at a Star Trek Day event in Los Angeles, TrekMovie was able to ask the iconic actress about how she would feel about returning to the screen as the character she’s so well-known for. Not surprisingly, the actress said she would love to revisit Captain (or Admiral) Janeway as she loved the character.

Kate Mulgrew does have a condition for returning to her character.

While Mulgrew is interested in returning to the character she played for seven season on Star Trek: Voyager, she does have one condition. The series would have to be beautifully done.

"I think I’d be interested in doing it if it were beautifully done. And if there’s anybody who knows how to do something beautifully, it’s probably Alex Kurtzman. It’s been brought up more and more of late. I don’t know why. So I answered positively because I loved her. I loved her and I’d love to revisit her. But it’s in the hands of the gods. And we know where the gods are, don’t we? In outer space."

Mulgrew didn’t elaborate on her definition on beautifully done, but many fans would disagree with her belief that Alex Kurtzman could create such a series. Perhaps that has to do with revisiting old characters as Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are popular. But Star Trek: Picard has taken a beating by fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It’s difficult to take over a character created by someone else without there being noticeable differences. A fan can pick up on the slightest change in a character, and it affects how they watch a series. That said, Prodigy is doing a good job with hologram Captain Janeway at present. We’ll know more about Admiral Janeway when the series returns in October. As long as the series doesn’t veer too much from the Janeway we knew on Voyager, the probablity of Star Trek: Janeway being successful is much higher.
