Star Trek: Picard will bring the USS Titan-A to fans for season three but what do we know about it?

Star Trek: Picard will see the USS Titan-A, the second in the line of the cult-favorite Titan ships. The ship became famous in the late-90s as the ship that William Riker would go on to captain in the extended, non-canon stories, before being added to the continuity with Star Trek: Nemesis.

For years fans wondered what the ship would look like with Riker at the helm and fans got a taste of it in Star Trek: Lower Decks. Now, however, fans will get to see what the ship’s successor will look like heading into the third season of Star Trek: Picard.

Terry Matalas, the show’s showrunner, spoke with TrekMovie.com about the ship, revealing some pretty interesting details about what fans can expect from it.

What do we know about the USS Titan-A in Star Trek: Picard?

Matalas told TrekMovie.com, that the USS Titan-A will serve as the hero of the season. Probably not in a literal sense but it does appear as though he knows how important the Federation ships are to the Star Trek brand, and is working to fix the issue from the first two seasons. The class of the ship is considered the “Neo-Constitution class or Constitution III”, so a bit different from the Titan that came before it.

Moreover, some fan-favorite ships from the extended universe will apparently be “canonized” this season.

The new Titan-A will also pay tributes to the Luna class USS Titan, a Titan from the TOS movie era, a Constitution-class version, and the original Shangri-La class. This new Titan will even have parts and systems from the version Riker captained, adding to some neat continuity.

Lastly, Matalas revealed that this Titan is the “classic exploratory vessel”, and is an “underdog” for the events of the third season. It’s considered a long-range ship, that mirrors the Constitution class’s ability to do extended year-long missions.

All in all, it sounds like classic Star Trek.
