The cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation return in the final season of Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek: Picard begins its final journey in 2023 along with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The season is intended to help wrap up thirty-year arcs and give fans some resolution that they didn’t get with Star Trek: Nemesis. This has been touted as closure for The Next Generation crew, but now there’s talk that this isn’t the last time we’ll see the crew get together.

At the Picard panel at New York Comic Con [via Trekmovie], the actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation gathered together to talk about what the next season of Picard holds as well as what the future holds. During the Q&A, a fan wanted to know if this would really be the last time we would see these characters. The responses from the actors were surprising.

"Sirtis: Who knows?McFadden: I would love it to go on forever. It would be fun.Frakes: Yeah, we are not dead yet.Sirtis: We are not dead, just old.Patrick: And just in case… I know there are some Paramount+ people here and also from Paramount Pictures, we could still make a movie.Frakes: I understand there is a Star Trek slot in the Paramount menu, if you will… an open slot.Spiner: As long as Paramount+ are here, I wouldn’t mind having my own series."

Star Trek: The Next Generation may not have had its final journey.

It’s funny that, prior to their upcoming appearances on Picard, we haven’t heard anything about another The Next Generation movie. Now, after making ten episodes of the series and once again getting to work together, the cast all are onboard for a return, although Michael Dorn didn’t weigh in. And Jonathan Frakes makes a good point when he references the open slot on Paramount Pictures’ menu, considering the recent removal of Star Trek 4 from its roster for next year.

Frakes also made sure that fans didn’t think this was the absolute last time the cast might be seen. When Star Trek on Paramount+ posted a trailer for Picard along with the caption “The final voyage,” Frakes quickly responded with a tweet of his own that only stirred the waters.

So this might not be the last time we see this crew gathered together. As long as the movie includes everyone (and Picard doesn’t kill off any member of the cast), most of The Next Generation fans, if not all, will be there with popcorn!
