Wild legacy characters are returning to Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Prodigy returns with another ten episodes on October 27.
The second half of Star Trek: Prodigy’s first season will premiere on October 27, and it’s bringing a lot of action and suspense. Though a series geared toward children, Prodigy is one of the most unique Star Trek series ever produced. So it’s not surprising that adults are tuning in. Kate Mulgrew as hologram Captain Janeway was a big draw from the start, and now Mulgrew will play a more prominent role as Admiral Janeway.
According to executive producer and co-creator Kevin Hageman who spoke at a panel at New York Comic Con[via Trekmovie], along with Ronny Cox returning as Admiral Jellico and Billy Campbell as Okona, there will be some other “wild, fun, legacy characters.”
"These are just a look at the future. There’s going to be so many more. Our characters are now venturing closer to into Federation space. And we promise you there are going to be some really wild, fun, legendary characters coming back in Prodigy."
Star Trek: Prodigy is bringing back more than just legacy characters, though.
Since the Protostar is getting closer to Federation space as Hageman said, it makes sense that the crew would encounter more of the unfriendlies that Voyager had to contend with on Star Trek: Voyager…and even some they didn’t. Co-executive producer and director Ben Hibon said that we’ll see the Borg, Romulans, and Klingons, adding that “it’s a gift that keeps on giving for us and the crew.”
With Prodigy bringing in characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, there is a wide world of possibilities as to which characters and from which shows will turn up on the freshman series. With Captain Chakotay already on, perhaps we’ll see what the rest of the crew from Voyager is up to as well. But I’m guessing we’re probably in for some one-off characters that we’d least expect, much like Okona.
But one thing is guaranteed. Previously, executive producer Aaron Waltke said that any character appearing wouldn’t be there just to pop-in. They would have substantial roles in the story so we can be assured there won’t be any cameos just for the sake of seeing (or hearing) a long-lost character. So with the crew finally beginning to see what the Federation and Starfleet is all about, surprising characters around the corner, and confrontation with some of the Federation’s enemies, the rest of this season is gearing up to be as exciting or even more so than the first half.
