Jameela Jamil is over the moon about her role on Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Prodigy returns for the second half of its first season on October 27th.
The first half of the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy ended with Admiral Kathryn Janeway in command of the USS Dauntless and hot on the trail of the Protostar. Aboard the Dauntless with Janeway was Ensign Ascencia (Jameela Jamil), a Trill bridge officer who only had a brief part in the series finale. In the second half of the first season, Jamil’s character will have a larger role, and at New York Comic Con [via Trekmovie], Jamil spoke about how proud she was to be a part of Prodigy.
Jamil has been a Star Trek fan since she was four years old, and when she got the email offering her the role, she didn’t even ask how much money nor did she read the script. She immediately responded with “YES” in all caps. Jamil went on to say that she was “over the moon and couldn’t believe it.” And now, she’s bringing the Trills to Prodigy.
Jameela Jamil is bringing the Trill to Star Trek: Prodigy.
Though a Trill was introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation ‘s season 4 episode, “The Host,” where Dr. Crusher had falled in love with Odan, we didn’t learn that much about them until Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) was introduced on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Their history is fascinating, but I don’t expect that will be introduced into Prodigy. So far, we haven’t learned that much about the history of the crew of the Protostar. I’m hoping that’s something Prodigy will rectify in the future.
The series has an open door to teach young ones about the differences in the alien species. While they learn about Starfleet and the Federation, it’s important for them to discover how these aliens, as different as they are, can all work together, be friends, and even become family. Hopefully, we’ll see many more introduced in the coming seasons, and Prodigy will keep the focus on the vast galaxy with so many species, including the Trill.
