Kate Mulgrew told fans to take to their phones and let Paramount know what they want when it comes to a live-action Janeway series.
We already know that Paramount+ is developing more Star Trek series. Whether we’ll actually see a Section 31 or Starfleet Academy, we don’t know, but there is one series that seems to be on a lot of people’s minds, one that brings Admiral Kathryn Janeway to the small screen. At present, Kate Mulgrew is portraying both hologram Janeway aboard the Protostar and the indomitable Admiral Janeway aboard the USS Dauntless on Star Trek: Prodigy.
At New York Comic Con, fans asked Alex Kurtzman what was happening with the series, and he said there have been talks. A Kate Mulgrew fan who goes by “Only the Janeway” on Tik Tok posted a short video of Kurtzman’s response, and before that, a video was posted with Mulgrew talking to a crowd about the potential for a series and how to make it happen.
In it, Mulgrew says that it is up to the fans not her as Paramount is looking at the numbers, and if there is enough of a cry for it, the studio will do it.
"“So just go on your phone and say we want Janeway. We want live action. And they will respond to you.”"
Fans could be responsible for bringing Kate Mulgrew back to live action television.
Star Trek fans do have the power to get things rolling with the franchise when it comes to new series as evidenced by Star Trek: Strange New Worlds being spun-off from Star Trek: Discovery. But if such an Admiral Janeway series does happen, fans are concerned that this newer version of Janeway will be so vastly different from the original Captain Janeway that they won’t even recognize her.
Unfortunately, that’s not something fans can control. So even though many fans want a live action series with Mulgrew, many are also hesitant to ask it of Paramount+ for fear of the changes it might bring to a character that is etched in their memory as one of the best captains in Starfleet.
