Some fans are onboard for a new Star Trek series with legacy characters, but others would prefer to introduce new characters.

This idea from Whatculture gives fans a bit of both to integrate into a new Star Trek series. Though it’s built around the life of Kira Nerys, it would take place during her time as a pre-teen to a young adult while fighting against the resistance taking place on Bajor. So several different actors could play Kira as she grows up on the series. Nana Visitor, who portrayed Kira for seven season, could narrate, or there could even be flashforwards into the future.

The good thing about this idea is it would allow Star Trek to explore the life of someone who is growing up in turmoil, trying to choose between black and white while discovering that grey areas exist. No, it wouldn’t take place aboard a starship, but it could still be an exciting series with plenty of action, suspense, betrayal, and danger.

Some Star Trek legacy characters have histories that could be mined for excellent television.

As we’ve been watching series and hearing about the histories of the characters, more than once, I’m sure we’ve all wanted to see a particular point in that person’s life if not more. Showing us more about these characters could actually enhance the older series and bring in even more viewers once they’ve seen what people like Kira Nerys went through in their past.

I’m not saying we need to see the past of every character, but there are quite a few who would make for excellent television. Kira’s is one of them.

So what do you think? Would you watch a series with a much younger Kira Nerys to learn about her past and how she got to be where she was at Deep Space Nine?
