Captain Chakotay makes his return official in the October 27th premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy.

The audience heard Captain Chakotay’s voice briefly in the first half of the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy last year, but his character (in animation) wasn’t revealed as he was missing. When Prodigy returns on Thursday, October 27th, so will Chakotay, and this time Robert Beltran’s character is in full animation form, looking almost exactly like we remember him from Star Trek: Voyager.

When the first half of season one ended, Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) was on the hunt (and after the Protostar) for her friend and fellow Starfleet officer, Captain Chakotay, who had disappeared, possibly after a mission gone bad. And while the first episode of the returning chldren’s series shows an image of Chakotay [via Trekmovie], there’s no indication that he has already been found. So this could very well be a flashback. Regardless, it’s good to see Chakotay again as it’s been far too long.

Also returning, according to the image stills, is John Noble as the Diviner. So he isn’t down for the count, after all.

Star Trek: Prodigy will return on October 27th with the episode “Asylum.”

The official synopsis of Prodigy, aptly entitled “Asylum,” has the crew of the Protostar seeking asylum before they learn a dangerous truth about their ship.

"At the edge of Federation space, the crew applies for asylum at a comm relay outpost, only for their starship to reveal its shocking true purpose."

The episode, written by co-creators Kevin and Dan Hageman, is the first of the remaining ten episodes that will finish out the first season. The series was renewed for season two, which is already in production, presumably to air some time in 2023.
