A Star Trek: Picard fan theory suggests Lore isn’t Lore after all

Brent Spiner is back for one final go around but is he actually playing Lore in Star Trek: Picard?

Star Trek: Picard is shaping up to be a swan song for the cast of The Next Generation. Just about every major character is back to reprise their roles from the show, and those who didn’t have already done so in previous seasons. Save for Denise Crosby, aka Tasha Yar. Of all those names, only one is coming back as someone other than their most famous character; Brent Spiner.

Spiner won’t be playing his iconic character Data, instead playing a lesser-known character he once played, named Lore. Lore is the anti-Data, a villain’s villain, who was chaos personified. The only thing we know about him for sure is that he loved his brother. Yet, this Lore is different.

Lore, like Data, is an android and they’re identical in every single way. Expect, this version of the character is now human, or at the very least, human-looking. This has led to some people coming up with some theories as to why he looks the way he does.

One theory comes from The Popcast YouTube channel, and they suggest that Lore has been reactivated and has an “aging chip” in him. Moreover, they believe that it isn’t just him, but a combination of Lore, Data, and their third, but lesser-appreciated brother B-4, all cohabitating in the same mechanical brain.

Watch the full video why the concept of the three staying in one body makes sense. That alone is a sound theory, but I’m here to push back on the “aging” concept.

Lore is not an android in Star Trek: Picard

I think the idea of all three robotic brothers sharing one body is a unique concept and one I hope they roll with, but I reject the notion of Lore “aging” due to a chip or some sort of mechanical process.

Instead, I think what we’ll see is Lore undergoing the same process that Jean-Luc Picard did in season one, where his physical consciousness was downloaded to an android (because don’t forget, Picard is a robot now) and I believe that Lore will have done the same thing.

In an attempt to feel more alive, he’ll create a “real” body for him to download his consciousness into so that he’s actually a living and breathing person or as much as one that Star Trek can make him be.

I still believe that B-4 and Data may cohabitate with him, as that would give you an ending of a “living” Data back with Picard and that would send fans home happy. I just reject the notion that Lore is an android anymore.

I think he’ll create a living body and somehow gain sentience over it.
