Warning: Contains spoilers for Star Trek #1 from IDW Publishing.

Up until now in Star Trek, there was no force that could kill the gods that were a part of the galaxy.

Whether it was the Q, the Organians, or the Prophets, these god-like beings were more powerful than anything that existed in the Star Trek realm. They were, by all accounts, indestructible. That is, until now. In IDW Publishing’s first comic to feature Captain Benjamin Sisko, a new weapon is introduced, and it’s the reason why the Prophets have sent Sisko back from their realm. [via Screenrant]

In Star Trek #1, a powerful force is eradicating all of the gods, and Sisko, who is now commanding the USS Theseus, and his crew have to stop whomever is behind the weapon or all of the gods, and anyone else, could be eliminated on a whim.

This new weapon in Star Trek has already obliterated one species from canon history.

Remember the Crystalline Entities, the really big snowflakes that could travel at warp speed and consume planets, starships, and whatever they wanted to eat? They first showed up on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and one was shattered by Dr. Marr in “Silicon Avatar,” but that wasn’t the only one, and they have made recurring appearances since then in Star Trek Online and short stories.

In the Hephaestus Nebula, Captain Sisko and his crew find the Crystalline Entities right before the Theseus’ sensors detect an unfamiliar ship in the Nebula. That ship’s weapon eradicates the Entities out of Star Trek.  So it’s understandable why finding this ship and weapon is a must for Captain Sisko. With that kind of power, the ship controlling this new weapon could literally wipe out the entire galaxy. The complete synopsis for the comic book is below.

"It’s stardate 2378 and Benjamin Sisko has finally returned from the Bajoran Wormhole – omnipotent – but with every minute, his godhood is failing. Sent by the Prophets on a mission to the deepest parts of space aboard the U.S.S. Theseus, he witnesses the unthinkable – someone is killing the gods. And only Sisko and his motley crew of Starfleet members from every era of Trek can stop them."
