Kathryne Janeway absolutely took a dig at Jean-Luc Picard.

Fans of a certain age may never have thought that some of the best content from Star Trek: Prodigy is coming from Instagram of all places. It’s shocking but true, Prodigy is producing a line of “Captain’s Logs” that have Kathryne Janeway updating fans on the goings on after each episode of Prodigy. Like the character on Prodigy, they’re voiced by Kate Mulgrew, who became an icon in the franchise due to her turn as Kathryne Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager.

The same character that is now doing the Instagram “Captain’s Logs”.

She’s one of the better captains the franchise has ever had but she’s never been given the credit. So it seems like she’s ready to start taking it. In the latest upload, seen below, Janeway laments being without her coffee due to “doctor’s orders”, and is forced to drink replicator tea.

In what has to be a dig at Jean-Luc Picard’s famous order of “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot” whenever he walked past a replicator, Janeway laments;

"…who can stand drinking tea from a replicator."

Kathryn Janeway taking a shot at Jean-Luc Picard is a funny little moment

Sometimes the Star Trek icons like Jean-Luc Picard are characters that fans take too seriously. After all, he’s a Frenchmen with a pronounced English accent. It’s easy to poke fun at him, and for it to come from Janeway, a character that has been unfairly maligned by the fanbase for so many years, it’s even better.

After all, Picard is often seen as the face of the franchise for decades by the fans, so it’s a nice little tongue-in-cheek way of her getting her comeuppance with a rather innocuous joke.
