Chris Hemsworth says he would return for Star Trek 4
Star Trek 4 has been removed from Paramount’s roster of movies, but Chris Hemsworth wasn’t a part of it.
Way back in 2018, Paramount Pictures was looking to move forward with the fourth movie in the Kelvin Timeline, and plans were being made to include Chris Hemsworth, who’d portrayed George Kirk in the 2009 Star Trek movie. A script had already been written, and production was set to start in 2019, but contract negotiations between Hemsworth and Chris Pine fell through, and the entire project was put on what seems to be a terminal hold now.
On the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast [via Trekmovie], Hemsworth seemed to indicate there was a problem with the script that wasn’t to his liking.
"It wasn’t what I sort of where I was thinking it would have been or could have been. I thought there would be, ‘Okay, cool, let’s figure that out and keep going.’ And then I think everyone got busy and so on."
Chris Hemsworth is open to the future when it comes to Star Trek 4.
Hemsworth thinks that time has worked against them since it has been fifteen years since he played James Kirk’s father.
"“It would be weird now to flash back to your father and “why is he so much older than the first time when he died?”"
But he isn’t strictly opposed to the idea of making things work if Star Trek 4 does begin to move forward. In fact, when the question was posed to him, he suggested “we could campaign to get it going.” He’d previously said in June in an interview with Vanity Fair [via Trekmovie] that, if J.J. Abrams called him tomorrow and said he and Chris Pine wanted to do it, he would be on board.
"And if J.J. Abrams called me tomorrow and said, “Chris Pine and I want to do it,” I’d probably say “Yeah, let’s go for it.”"
While we don’t know where things stand with Star Trek 4 at present, we do know that the cast is on board for the movie, and with Hemsworth suggesting a campaign to get things going, that could be the impetus production needs to start the wheels turning again.
