Ethan Peck has brought Spock to life across Star Trek’s Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

Star Trek has a habit of bringing back iconic characters with new actors. So far Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has characters who are being portrayed by at least their third actor or actress. This is the sign of a strong character that fans love. To pull off such a character, however, you have to get a good talent to embody them.

Not only are you looking for someone who can bring their own flavor to the role, but you’re also looking for someone who can capture the essence of the original actors without trying to copy them note for note.

It’s rather difficult and many actors struggle with such a concept. Ethan Peck, the next in line of noble actors to portray Spock has admitted to struggling with taking on the mantle that Leonard Nimoy created and that Zachary Quinto nailed so effortlessly.

Speaking to Star Trek: Explorer magazine (via TrekMovie.com), Peck went on to explain how he felt when he debuted as Spock.

"Q: You really thought you might fail?A: I felt so unproven at the time. I didn’t have a lot of experience. So, I just wasn’t sure how it was going to fare. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I guess I could call myself a recovering perfectionist at this point in time, and that’s not good for creativity in art-making. I was given this opportunity to do that when I was cast in Discovery as Spock. That’s not something everyone gets the opportunity to do, to rise to an occasion."

Peck however nailed the role over time and fans have embraced him just as the fandom has embraced Quinto.

"Q: How proud are you that you have pulled it off?A: I’m proud. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and it feels like it’s only just beginning. Being on Discovery almost felt like a preamble to what’s been happening on Strange New Worlds—for me personally—and it’s ongoing. I feel like I’m starting to find a groove, all these years later."

Ethan Peck really has pulled off playing Spock across Star Trek

It was very easy to come into the role of Spock and for Peck to just pretend to be Nimoy. That’s not what Peck did, however. He’s brought a uniqueness all his own and while he may act like Spock is supposed to, his portrayal is still wholly his own.

While his debut on Discovery didn’t go as well as many had hoped, his turn on Strange New Worlds has made many a believer.
