Can comics give Star Trek: Enterprise a second chance?

With Star Trek: Deep Space Nine moving into comics, isn’t it time for Star Trek: Enterprise to go there as well? 

As much as fans have been hoping for a Star Trek: Enterprise movie or a revival with the original cast, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. In fact, it would probably be a surprise if we saw any of the original characters show up now, and we’re not certain why. But one thing we do know is that IDW Publishing brought Captain Benjamin Sisko back from the Prophets, closing an open-ended ending from Deep Space Nine’s finale. So could this happen for Enterprise as well?

We all know the cringe that was the series finale for Enterprise, and if we can’t get a redo of that finale in live action, then we’ll settle for a comic book reversal even if it might not be canon. Quite frankly, fans are ready for anything Enterprise now as this series has been practically left out of all of the series that have been airing since Star Trek: Discovery began in 2017.

To date, Enterprise, which ran for four seasons, has received only one comic book tie-in, which appeared in 2016’s anthology series Star Trek: Waypoint. [via Screenrant] But that comic showed the series could be transformed into a comic book so why shouldn’t it?

Star Trek: Enterprise deserves to be reborn, either in live action, in animation, or in a comic book.

The series, which ran for four seasons, was just hitting its stride when it was cancelled in 2005, and with so many stories still left to be told, Paramount has its choice of mediums to use. But we all know there’s little chance of a reboot of the series with the original characters, and an animated series isn’t even on the horizon (that we know about anyway). That leaves comics as a possibilty, and seeing how good of a job IDW Publishing has done for other Star Trek series, the odds are good a comic book set aboard Captain Archer’s Enterprise would go over well with fans.

At the very least, it might allow a fifth season to unfurl then provide us with a series finale that we actually want to see again. Perhaps this is already being considered. If so, we haven’t seen any hint of it, but that doesn’t mean the wheels aren’t turning behind-the-scenes. A comic book series certainly wouldn’t be the same as a decent wrap-up onscreen, but at least it would let fans know the show hasn’t been forgotten and that we’ve been heard.
