Ornament Idea 1: Kevin Riley singing “Kathleen”… One… More… Time!

As you can see in the photo above, Hallmark has already turned one iconic scene from “The Naked Time” into an ornament. In 2018, the company unveiled a recreation of Sulu’s shirtless, swashbuckling antics on the Enterprise bridge.

The ornament features credible likenesses of the characters—the sculptors captured Takei’s image better than Shatner’s, in my judgment, but both look pretty good. I like the splash of color the section of bright red bridge railing provides. Best of all, the ornament plays nearly 30 seconds of dialogue from the episode. (Alas, Uhura’s rejoinder to Sulu’s “fair maiden” comment—”Sorry, neither!”—isn’t included.)

Since Hallmark is willing to make many ornaments from a single episode—it’s now gone to the “Mirror, Mirror” well multiple times with those Storytellers—I’d like to see an ornament featuring “Captain Kevin Thomas Riley” at the engineering console he commandeered under the Psi 2000 virus’s influence.

Actor Bruce Hyde delivered more than enough audio clip-worthy dialogue. I can easily imagine pushing the button on a Kevin Riley ornament to hear the self-styled descendant of Irish kings announce the dance in the ship’s bowling alley, order double portions of ice cream for the crew, and—of course—serenade us with “I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen” one… more… time!
