Star Trek: Prodigy continues to deliver even when there aren’t new episodes.

If you haven’t been watching Star Trek: Prodigy, you are missing out. The show follows a group of young slaves who broke free from captivity and have found a goal in life; join Starfleet together. There’s only one hangup. The ship they’re on, a prototype ship with time-travel capabilities called the U.S.S. Protostar has a doomsday device connected to it.

The device is called the Living Construct, and its sole purpose is to override Starfleet ships and take control of their systems, leading to a fleet-wide destruction. All of this to save the future of the Vau N’Akat, an alien race the Federation doesn’t even know about yet.

It’s a pretty simple story, all told, but it’s telling it very well. Among the best aspects of the show is that it’s not just telling its story from episode to episode. No, instead they’re using aspects of social media to further explore the concept.

The latest captain’s log for Star Trek: Prodigy further proves how valuable this idea is

In the latest episode, the Living Construct has successfully been activated and is wreaking havoc across the Federation fleet with no help in sight. Several starships from across the Alpha Quadrant, including a Gorn trading ship, arrived to try and help but as more Federation ships answer the automated Priority 1 message, the more damage and carnage occurred.

The show has told this story wonderfully on its own but adding a bit of extra content only helps to further explain the situation at hand. Using social media only further expands upon the emotional aspects of the situation.

Aspects that don’t make it into the show due to its run time. Through the captain’s logs, we know that the betrayal of one of her own has affected Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway greatly. We also know that her desire to find her former first officer, Chakotay, is extremely strong. The frustration of the entire situation is becoming evident and it’s starting to wear down Janeway.

But more than that, we’re getting exceptional writing. The entire entries are great but the closing of the latest one really shows you that this writing team gets Star Trek.

“Fate’s hour is upon us”.

It’s such a foreboding, yet accepting line. Even though the Federation is tearing itself apart, Janeway is still resolute in her actions and duties.
