Star Trek: Picard’s third season will have three key villains.
Star Trek: Picard intends on going out with a bang as the series will not only say goodbye to several The Next Generation stars for good, but they’ll also pass the torch to the next generation of characters and stories; whatever that means. To ensure that the stakes reach a fever pitch worthy of such lofty expectations, the crew on Picard have decided to bring in not one, but three key villains for the season.
Yet, who are they?
While there may be some moving parts that we’re not entirely sure of yet, we do know the three key villains are Vadic, a brand new character to the franchise, Lore, the evil brother to Data and Moriarty, a hologram with a desire to best Jean-Luc Picard.
Yet, not all of the villains are going to be “traditional”, according to Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas in an interview with SFX (via TrekMovie.com), the show will feature less-traditional villains to do battle against;
"They are certainly villains in the way that you would know them as villains, but they’re not traditional villains, meaning I don’t know that they will all fulfill that specific role … We really wanted a major villain for Vadic that she should be a larger than life, classic Star Trek villain who had her own reasons for doing what she does. And when you heard them, you’d say, ‘You know, she might have a point.’"
Could there be a fourth villain sitting and waiting?
Vadic, Lore, and Moriarty aren’t the only three who may be popping up to do battle with the heroes of the show. Rumors have Denise Crosby returning to the series for a final appearance, but not as her original character, Natasha Yar. No, many believe that if the rumors are true, she’ll return as Sela, one of the Romulans’ best military officers.
Not only could she complicate proceedings, but if rumors of Picard having a love child with Beverly Crusher, who knows how the child will turn out? If other reboot shows are any indication (Dexter: New Blood), then it’s very possible Picard’s rumored child could be just as much of a problem as anyone.
