The newest trailer for Star Trek: Picard reveals two new characters, but they weren’t a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation or other Star Trek series.

Star Trek: Picard showrunner teased the appearance of more Star Trek: The Next Generation characters and The Next Generation adjacent characters. Trekcentral tweeted the news after Matalas appeared at the TCA 23 panel. But in the newest and final trailer for Picard before the third season debuts on February 16th, there wasn’t a hint of any The Next Generation or adjacent characters like from Star Trek Voyager or Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

The Star Trek: Picard trailer introduces two new characters.

Ed Speleers (Outlander, You) was introduced as someone who helps Dr. Beverly Crusher’s medical efforts, and Todd Stashwick (12 Monkeys, Riches ) is on board as the captain of the U.S.S. Titan. But that still leaves us without additional characters from the early years of the Star Trek Universe.

We already know that Kate Mulgrew will not be reprising her role as Admiral Janeway as she confirmed that in an interview with ComicBook.com [via Screenrant}. That’s not surprising seeing that she’s been pulling double-duty as Admiral Janeway and Hologram Janeway on Star Trek: Prodigy. We also know that Denise Crosby won’t be making an appearance as Matalas confirmed that as well.

Screenrant did mention that Robert Picardo has expressed interest in returning to the franchise, but he would like to play the EMH’s creator, Dr. Zimmerman, rather than a hologram this time. That would allow for Picardo to be an older character and not have to be de-aged. And it would make sense to have another doctor to help out as the trailer clearly shows there’s going to be enough danger to require additional medical assistance.

Terry Matalas has said nothing else in regards to other characters that may pop up other than the one hint. So it’s clear that whomever is going to appear is meant to be a surprise much like Wil Wheaton’s appearance was at the end of season two.
