Star Trek is front and center in the newest Paramount+ commercial.

The latest Paramount+ commercial may have solidified the two torchbearers of the Star Trek brand in their latest commercial. The latest spot featured Anon Mount as Captain Christopher Pike and Tawny Newsome as Beckett Mariner, both representing Star Trek with Mount doing duty with Strange New Worlds and Newsome with Lower Decks.

They were joined in this new commercial by Beavis and Butthead, Lt. Jim Dangle from Reno 911!, Dora the Explorer, Sylvester Stallone, and his three daughters, Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet. Stallone had a moment in the commercial where he was climbing a mountain that bore his likeness, likely playing off of the cult classic 1993 film, Cliffhanger.

The story of the commercial basically revolves around Stallone climbing the mountain that bares his face and falling, while his daughters nonchalantly mention how often this happens to him. While it does a terrible job at it, the commercial is meant to promote Stallone’s new reality show which will feature his three daughters, though never once does that get mentioned.

‘The Family Stallone’ releases this spring.

The new Paramount commercial maneuvers Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks as the face of Star Trek.

It’s pretty clear by the focus of these commercials that Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks have become the standard bearers for the franchise, at least in the eyes of the folks who run Paramount+.

With that being the case, it’s safe to wonder if there’s going to be some serious culling with the brand. The streaming service is being forced to merge with its sister service, Showtime, to reduce costs. Running a streaming service isn’t cheap, but if they’re profitable, companies will run as many as they can. When they’re not, mergers happen to save money and that’s what Paramount+ is about to do with Showtime, merging the two services to save money.

When steps like this are taken, there are usually cancellations that go along with it. Discovery has been on the bubble for some time, and the Section 31 show may finally get the axed as well. Many fans seem to agree that the way forward is fewer new shows and more episodes for the shows that already exist. Hopefully, that becomes the case.
