Not everyone was a fan of the Chakotay/Seven of Nine romance from Star Trek: Voyager.

In fact, it’s probably safe to say that most fans of Star Trek: Voyager didn’t buy into the romance at all, especially considering it came out of left field with no advance notice or build up. So it left viewers feeling more confused than happy.

Still, after Voyager ended, it was never mentioned again, not even when Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) joined Star Trek: Picard in its first season. So it’s probably a safe assumption that the relationship didn’t last. But one fan had to know why it ended and reached out to Robert Beltran (Chakotay) on Twitter to ask if the actor had any idea why the romance fizzled. Beltran came back with a number of funny reasons, mostly related to Seven’s status as a former Borg drone.

The Chakotay/Seven of Nine romances is one of those things that probably should have never happened.

So it doesn’t come as a surprise that not much is being said about how the relationship ended. The writers who put the pair together are probably content to let the romance fizzle. But that doesn’t stop fans from speculating, especially now that both Seven and Chakotay have returned.

With Beltran now on Star Trek: Prodigy, many want to make sure the path is clear should an Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and Captain Chakotay romantic connection be in the future. Though it certainly wouldn’t be the same as seeing the pair on a live action show, fans that are fervent believers in Janeway/Chakotay will certainly be happy if a romance occurs even in animated form!

So what do you think? Why did the Chakotay/Seven romance end? And should it have ever started?
