Chris Pine isn’t interested in leaving Star Trek behind anytime soon.

Chris Pine’s latest film, the new Dungeons and Dragons film, is almost out and that means the press tour to promote the film is in full effect. While his fantasy project is next up, fans of Pine and Star Trek as a whole will surely remember him as James Kirk, the leader of the Kevlin franchise of films.

Pine hasn’t put on his Kirk pants since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond however and despite attempts to get a fourth film going over the last seven years, nothing has transpired. This is despite the fact that Paramount announced Star Trek 4 in early 2022, announcing the film will have the entire surviving cast returning. Yet, production issues with Karl Urban, no script, and the director leaving the project caused the film to fall apart.

Pine hasn’t been happy about this, but that doesn’t mean he’s looking for a way out. Despite not being happy with the lack of transparency with the project, Pine told viewers in a Wired video (below) that he was looking forward to making more Star Trek films.

Saying (via TrekMovie.com);

"How many Chris Pine Star Trek? I’ve made three Star Treks. I’ve been involved in Three Star Treks. Hoepfuly, many more.It’s super cool. I love the idea. It’s very rare to get a chance to play one character over the entire essentially course of your career. If I had the chance to do that, I think it would be so cool. So, so cool. So hopefully we get to do it."

Chris Pine’s James Kirk is too good to lose without a send-off film

A fourth film may not be the most important thing that Star Trek has to worry about. The mass cancellations and budget slashing at Paramount+ seem like a bigger issue, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ignore Star Trek 4.

Star Trek 4 has to happen if for no other reason than saying goodbye to Pine’s James Kirk and the rest of the Kelvin crew. The franchise works better as a series, as opposed to a film, so there shouldn’t be much focus on trying to replace the current crew with a new film series.

Instead, just prepare for a major, possibly final film with the Kelvin crew.
