Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will announce its future soon.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has come into the franchise swinging for the fences. It’s done a lot of work to reestablish the brand as must-see content, doing something that five other shows couldn’t do. It’s been a hit since its premiere and that shouldn’t surprise anyone.
It went back to classic Star Trek ideologies. It’s embraced what made Trek so popular for nearly 60 years and has done so with a fresh polish of paint to boot. It found some great actors, gave them great, non-controversial characters, and really leaned into the idea of a “mission of the week” format.
It also re-contextualized some more minor aspects of the franchise, like The Gorn. So it’s not surprising that the show got a second season, and that second season announcement is coming soon. We should know sometime this week when season two will premiere.
We also know that season two isn’t the end of the show.
Is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds getting a third season?
Speaking at MIT recently, Strange New World’s co-showrunner, Akiva Goldsman revealed that not only are fans getting the airdate announcement for season two but that a third season is not only likely but is actively being filmed.

"Today or tomorrow we’re announcing the airdate of the second season, which we filmed like 17 years ago… and you’ll be really surprised because we just went all over the place. And we’ve just starting filming the third season now."
Paramount+ hasn’t announced a third season yet, but if what Goldsman said is true, then clearly Strange New Worlds isn’t getting canceled anytime soon. This is good news, as Discovery and Picard were canceled already, with Picard airing its final season currently and Discovery’s last season coming in 2024.
While Strange New Worlds’ cancelation wasn’t expected, with Paramount+ slashing budgets and canceling shows, anything was truly possible.
