William Shatner turns 92 on March 22, so here are three of his better non-Star Trek offerings to watch.

William Shatner, the star of the original Star Trek series and subsequent first seven films in the franchise’s history is 92 years old today. Most known by us Star Trek fans as Captain James Tiberius Kirk, Shatner has been an actor for some 70 years at this point, and has been in countless films, shows, video games, and commercials.

With it being his birthday, we thought it’d be a fun idea to pick just three different roles he was in across his career that weren’t Star Trek for you to watch this week. In a career that has spanned eight decades, it’s hard to narrow down his career to just three options but that’s what we’re doing.

As a caveat, we’re not going to include his roles in shows like Rescue 911, Boston Legal, T.J. Hooker, or even The Twilight Zone, simply due to the popularity of each show and the obvious connection Shatner has to them.

Three best non-Star Trek roles William Shatner has done

3rd Rock from the Sun (The Giant Big Head)

William Shatner appeared in five episodes of the hit 90s sitcom, 3rd Rock from the Sun, which followed four aliens living on Earth. The series was led by the incredibly talented Jonathan Lithgow, who did fantastic comedic work as Dick Solomon, the alien leader of the Earth party. When his boss, the Giant Big Head (played by Shatner), arrives on Earth, you can guess the hilarity that ensues.

Over the Hedge (Ozzie the Opossum)

One of the more unappreciated animated films of the mid-00s, the film features a group of animals who live in the woods behind a residential neighborhood, and desperately need to scavenge for food that can last them the winter. Shatner plays Ozzie, an overly-dramatic opossum who teaches his daughter Heather (Avril Lavigne) how to “act” or play dead. It was an interesting role for Shatner, as he was paired with then-pop punk mega star Lavigne at the height of her popularity. The two played off one another very well and is a must-watch.

Psych (Frank O’Hara)

Finally, a more personal choice here is Psych. Shatner appeared in just two episodes of the popular investigative-comedy, where the main character, Shawn Spencer, pretends to be a psychic to help solve crimes. Shatner plays Frank O’Hara, the ne’er-do-well, and con-man father to Shawn’s love interest, Juliet, a Santa Barbara police detective. Both of his episodes are among the shows strongest and any fan of crime and comedy would do well to check this series out.
