A Big Bang Theory star celebrates Leonard Nimoy on his 92nd birthday
By Chad Porto
Star Trek icon Leonard Nimoy would’ve been 92 years old on March 26, 2023.
Leonard Nimoy is a name that every Star Trek fan knows or will know soon after joining the fandom. He was the first to bring the iconic Trek character Spock to life and many still hold Nimoy as the standard bearer for the role. Why shouldn’t he be, he was one of the pillars of Star Trek for nearly 30 years, before taking a nearly 20-year hiatus and returning to the franchise in the late 2000s.
Star Trek was one of the most prominent roles in his career and so many people have fond memories of his performances. While he did act in other things, Nimoy’s turn as Spock saw him make many appearances across various media that saw him pay homage to his Trek role.
One of the more recent, and more well-received Star Trek-inspired roles came on the ultra-popular sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. One of the main characters on the show, Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) idolized and gravitated to the character Spock, which presented some rather interesting storylines.
Like when Sheldon believed a Spock action figure, voiced by Leonard Nimoy, was talking to him.
So it’s not surprising that one of the Big Bang Theory stars, Mayim Bialik, paid homage to Nimoy.

Bialik, who played Amy Farrah Fowler, Sheldon Cooper’s wife, posted on her Instagram a touching tribute to Nimoy. In it, she posted a photo of her wearing a “Live Long and Prosper” (LLAP) pendant, the one that went to space apparently. She reveals that Nimoy’s daughter ad son-in-law, Julie Nimoy, and David Knight, gifted her the pendant.
"In honor of Leonard Nimoy’s 92nd Birthday today, I’m proud to be wearing the LLAP Pendant which was given to me by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie Nimoy and David Knight. The pendant is very special to his family not only because the LLAP symbol was so loved by Leonard but it’s the same pendant that was on-board Blue Origin’s space flight last year commemorating his legacy and his lasting wish for peace, tolerance and unity in the future! Happy Birthday Leonard!"
