Star Trek: Picard brought back a character that fans didn’t expect but with a major twist.

Star Trek: Picard has been hitting all of the returns and cameos it can. We saw Will Wheaton reprise his role as Wesley Crusher in a season two cameo, Whoopie Goldberg return as Guinan, John de Lancie return as Q, and of course the core cast of the Next Generation.

Everyone’s back; Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, and Michael Dorn as Worf.

Fans knew they were all returning, they also knew that Brent Spiner, more famously known as Data, was also returning; but this time as his villainous brother Lore. Spiner, who spent the last few seasons with the Picard cast playing Data and various members of the Soongh family throughout history was expected to be done playing Data, following his second “death” in season one of Picard.

But that’s not the case, apparently.

Data is back in Star Trek: Picard but he’s not alone

In “The Bounty”, fans saw the return of Data, as Spiner once again played the role. Though this time Data, is in a more human-looking body, as opposed to his obvious robotic one. That said it’s not just Data that’s back though. Lore is back as well, and so is Data and Lore’s other brother, B-4, and Lal, Data’s “daughter” that he created, and maybe more though we’re not sure. That’s because while all of those characters are back, they’re all sharing one body; the body that Data is residing in.

That means that all of those personalities will manifest over the course fo the season, which may explain why and how Lore becomes an issue as seen in the trailer for the season. It’s certainly a twist and time will show us how that twist plays out.
