Star Trek has a new show coming soon called Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Star Trek has had an uneven year. They’ve lost two shows due to cancelation in Picard and Lower Lower Decks but saw Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks get new season orders. Plus, Prodigy helped relaunch the iconic Playmates action figure line. Legends were lost, new favorites were discovered and the film franchise is just all over the place at the moment.

Now more change is coming to Star Trek, as Paramount+ has announced today via a press release, that a new show is coming; Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The series will be overseen by the usual suspects in Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, who are acting as showrunners for the first season.

The show will begin production sometime in 2024.

There’s not else known about the show yet, other than a snippet in the press release;

"The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy."

Sounds a bit close to Lower Decks and Prodigy but maybe in live-action and with not as much comedy. The press release further goes on to describe what the show will “introduce us” to.

"STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY will introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself."

Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber will serve as executive producers.

What else do we know about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Right now we don’t know much else, like who the characters are, who’s been cast or even if the show will be live-action or animated. With the Nu Trek era of Star Trek, it’s impossible to say for sure what anything will end up looking like ahead of time.

So the best bet is just to sit back and relax and see how it all unfolds.
