Star Trek: Voyager fans might have some good news to look forward to.
Though nothing has yet to be confirmed, Giant Freakin Robot has revealed that a Star Trek: Voyager revival series is in active development at Paramount. We still list revelations like this as a rumor until it has been confirmed by the studio, but Giant Freakin Robot has been successful in revealing surprising details about other series a day or two before they are announced by larger sites.
It wouldn’t be too far out to say this is an extreme possibility as Kate Mulgrew, who plays Admiral Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Prodigy, has discussed her terms for returning to a live-action series as the inimitable leader of the next starship. And that very well could be Voyager as Star Trek: Picard recently showed the ship at the Fleet Museum. So while it might not be the original, a newer version of the ship could be in development along with the series.
A Star Trek: Voyager revival doesn’t necessarily mean every actor from the series would be returning.
A revival of the series doesn’t have to include every one of the actors who were on the original series. It might not be possible anyway, given that Roxann Dawson has focused more on directing than acting as of late. However, many of the other actors have already made a return to the franchise, including Jeri Ryan who currently stars on Star Trek: Picard which is ending in two weeks and Tim Russ who just popped in for a surprise visit on PIcard.
In addition, Robert Duncan McNeill reprised the voice of his character Tom Paris on Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Robert Beltran is voicing Captain Chakotay on Star Trek: Prodigy. So five out of the main cast have returned to a Star Trek series. Though a new Voyager series would have to do a work around to account for the holographic doctor’s aging, as we’ve seen on PIcard, that is entirely possible which could bring Robert Picardo back to the crew.
As for Garrett Wang and Ethan Phillips, we don’t know whether either would be open to revisiting their characters. If that does happen, though Harry Kim would have to be a much higher rank than an ensign!
Nothing is set in stone about this revival so this could be one instance where it doesn’t come true, but it’s certainly something to get a little excited about while waiting for official confirmation or denial.
