Terry Matalas wants to revisit a popular Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character
By Chad Porto
Star Trek: Picard showrunner wants to explore a former Deep Space Nine character.
Star Trek: Pcard has done a great job of revisiting the extended Star Trek universe, viewing things like Seven of Nine from Voyager, Worf after the Dominion War and even taking a look at old concepts from prior films and shows. This is something that showrunner Terry Matalas has done consciously, hoping to connect the new with the old.
While he’s done a lot in bringing back past characters, like the group from the Next Generation and so far two ex-Voyager characters, he doesn’t want to be done, at least not yet.
There’s one Deep Space Nine character he wants to take a look at, which makes sense, as Picard’s villains from season three are the Changelings, made famous in Deep Space Nine. But what Deep Space Nine character would Matalas want to further explore?
Terry Matalas reveals what Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character he’d want to explore
For Matalas, the one character he’d like to explore currently is none other than Kira Nerys. Nerys already returned to the series, but in the animated comedy Lower Decks, once again voiced by DS( actress Nana Visitor. Speaking at the Inglorious Treksperts panel during GalaxyCon (via TrekMovie.com), Matalas told moderator Mark Altman that he’d love to work with Visitor and her character Kira Nerys;
"She’s so good. I mean, gosh you want to see that. You want to see Nana so bad and what’s going on with her and everyone. That would be phenomenal."
It’s clear that Visitor is already inclined to return to Star Trek, as she already has, and it wouldn’t be too hard to get her back full-time on a series, at least one would think. So it’s very possible that Matalas, if he gets another series with Trek, could very well bring her on.
