Star Trek: Picard’s third season has left Will Riker and Deanna Troi’s daughter out of the action.
Star Trek: Picard isn’t just wrapping up storylines that were created in past shows, but also their own shows. Storylines that didn’t seem to need to go anywhere but still did. Like the relationship between Deanna Troi and William Riker.
The two are still working through issues stemming from the loss of their son sometime after Star Trek: Nemesis. When we finally see the couple in season one of Picard, they seem rather happy together, but as we find out in season three after they’ve been reunited under less than hospitable circumstances, things weren’t as bright and shiny as we were led to believe.
There’s still some hurt there, hurt that never got to heal. And it’s good that they’re working on that, amidst a galaxy-spanning conflict, but the one question that has popped up a lot over the last few weeks is; where is their daughter?
While they lost a son shortly after he was born, they do still have a daughter. One that’s old enough to know when things aren’t going well, but young enough to still need some sort of guardian. So where is she during all this chaos?
Terry Matalas reveals where Will Riker and Deanna Troi’s daughter is
Speaking to Collider, Matalas revealed that Riker and Troi’s daughter is at Starfleet Academy, saying;
"“We had it in there, but again, it just didn’t fit in with the dialogue. [There are] so many things you put in that fans are like, ‘Why didn’t you just say this?’ You have it in there and it sounds like garbage. We had that line in there, and, ‘Thank God, Kestra is alive and well and at Starfleet Academy…’ It just sounds terrible, so you take it out.”"
With the Starfleet Academy show in early production, this may have been a wrinkle to add to the new show, assuming they keep it in the same century. They should, especially if this is the area of the timeline they’re focusing most of their energy on already. It’s where all new shows should hover around.
