Star Trek: Picard wrote a very touching sendoff to a long-time icon.

Star Trek: Picard has done a great job highlighting the past of the franchise. Just about every pre-Nu Trek franchise got a toast and send off in some way. The Original Series had its Enterprise on full display, Voyager had two crewmen and its ship, while Deep Space Nine had its alien menace, and Enterprise got a beautiful little speech about it.

And as melancholic as it may have been, even deceased Star Trek Kelvin actor, Anton Yelchin, got a fitting tribute in the final episode of the series. Star Trek: Picard, however, was not done. When the show brought back the iconic ship from The Next Generation; the USS Enterprise-D, they also brought back the former voice for the system’s computers. Played famously by Majel Barrett, the wife of Trek series creator Gene Roddenberry.

The voice of Barrett already popped up in Episode 9, using old clips from prior recordings for the role. Her voice wasn’t heard much throughout the second-to-last and final episode, but there was a moment, right when Jean-Luc Picard, LeVar Burton, and William Riker left the Enterprise-D for one last time, that we got a nod to the first lady of Trek.

Jonathan Frakes’ line in Star Trek: Picard was touching and layered

Frakes, who plays William Riker, got to send off Barrett with a touching line. As the trio of men prepares to depart the bride of the Enterprise-D, Barrett’s voice can be heard one final time, to which Frakes, as Riker, stated with a tinge of sadness, but a ton of love;

"“I miss that voice”"

Since Barrett is seen by the fans as the voice of the franchise, it was fitting that Frakes, the long-time member of Star Trek’s behind-the-scenes crew, would be the one to echo the sentiments of the fans.
