Star Trek: Picard really laid it on thick with the Borg references in the final episode.

Star Trek: Picard has wrapped up its three-season run and with it ended a season that was filled with constant callbacks, cameos, and the like. There were no greater amount of callbacks and references to past events, specifically those involving the Borg than in the series finale.

With Jack Crusher (Jack Picard now?) fully integrated into the Borg collective, or what remains of it, the rebuilt Enterprise-D had to go to the Borg cube to rescue him and stop the collective from destroying Earth.

In doing so, the episode found opportunities to embrace past moments involving the Borg. These were three we noticed.

Three Borg Callbacks in Star Trek: Picard’s final episode

Jack Crusher wearing the Locutus setup

While Jack and his famous pops may have had different body armor on when they were Borg’ed-up, they had the same facial attachment on the side of their heads. Jack and Jean-Luc both rocked the side attachment that had a red-laser sight on the side of their face. It’s a one-to-one match and was a very nice callback to Picard’s time as Locutus.

Worf thinks every day is a good day to die

During the events of First Contact, when the Federation’s battle with the Borg was raging, Worf was the captain of the Defiant. It was losing power and had lost its weapon, which forced Worf to quip “I guess today IS a good day to die…”, right before the Enterprise arrived. While searching the Borg cube with William Riker, moments before its destruction, Riker turns to Worf to enquire if this is a good day to die by saying;

"Riker: Well my friend, is this good enough?Worf: It is a fine day indeed to die with honor"

It’s a subtle callback but one that had a lot more emotion than many thought.

Alice Krige returns

Annie Wersching debuted in Star Trek: Picard as a different take on the Borg Queen, and many fans loved her turn as the evil Borg entity. Sadly, Wersching passed away before season three would premier. While she was still with us in 2021 when the show was filming its final season, the crew clearly wanted to connect the Borg Queen with Picard. So the crew of Picard turned back the clock and went with the pioneer of the role, Alice Krige. Krigewho played the Queen in First Contact and Voyager. As she was the character when Picard fought the Borg in First Contact, it was fitting that Krige would be the person they’d pick.
