Season Two of Star Trek: Prodigy will premiere this winter, but Kate Mulgrew is dishing up some news now
This kind of news is specifically for fans of Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran). When the pair served together aboard the Voyager on Star Trek: Voyager, Janeway was a captain, and Chakotay was her second in command. That was one of the many reasons why, even though the couple had amazing chemistry, nothing happened between them other than friendship. Of course that came as a disappointment to a lot of fans. Is it possible that could change with the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy?
When asked by Yahoo!entertainment if she thinks fans will be happy with what’s going to happen with Janeway and Chakotay, Mulgrew responded by saying “they’re going to be very happy.” Then added, “qualitatively, they can’t be happier. The quality of this thing is sky high.” She then gave fans a little more.
"“I think they’ll be very pleased with what happens between Vice Admiral Janeway and Chakotay.”"
Kevin Hageman weighed in along with Kate Mulgrew on the future for Janeway and Chakotay
Mulgrew wouldn’t provide any more information because of potential spoilers, but she talked about the importance and significance of the relationship to Janeway. And co-creator and showrunner Kevin Hageman told Yahoo!entertainment that “we will deliver the goods. We’re not just going to tease people and just frustrate them. That would be terrible on our part to do, right? But I think we’re going to embrace what the next chapter is between these two characters.”
Hageman went on to say that they had discussed things with Kate and Robert , and he feels like they came to a wonderful place.” While that doesn’t provide any definitive information, it does let us know that the writers and showrunners aren’t taking this relationship lightly. Both the friendship and a potential for romance means a lot to Voyager fans. It certainly sounds like there are good things in store for Janeway and Chakotay, even if it is only a deepening friendship.
