In what can’t be described as surprising, the Star Trek: Picard finale broke into the Nielsen streaming top ten videos.

Terry Matalas, the showrunner for Star Trek: Picard, shared the news via Twitter that the finale came in at number nine on Nielsen’s Streaming Video Top 10s for original series, for the week ending 4/23/23. This list includes numbers from Amazon Prime, AppleTV, Disney+, HBOMax, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, and Netflix. Previously, the second to last episode also broke into the list for the week of April 10-16.

This is a another huge success considering the number of original series the eight above-referenced streaming channels have available.  On top of that, Picard was the only Paramount+ series that broke into the top ten. And most fans are letting Matalas know that, to them, the series was number one on the list.

Star Trek: PIcard finale could be the starting point for future series

By now, everyone knows about the call for Star Trek: Legacy, the series based upon the adventures of Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and the crew of the newly-minted USS Enterprise. But that’s not the only series that could come from the finale.

If Paramount is smart about this, there are a myriad of series that could be launched from one of the greatest finales in Star Trek history. These numbers alone tell the studio the kind of Star Trek the fans want, what will make the fans tune in, and it would behoove Paramount to pay attention.

With Star Trek: Discovery ending and Star Trek: Picard now over, there are two slots to be filled, one which has already been claimed by the upcoming series, Starfleet Academy. That leaves room for one more, but eventually, Paramount+ will need more content from the franchise, and it would make sense for the studio to look toward this finale before it makes a decision on what to greenlight next.
