The Orville still hasn’t been renewed for season four.

The Orville ended its third season on August 4, 2022, and ten months later, there’s still no word on whether the series will be renewed for a fourth season. Though creator Seth MacFarlane remains cautiously optimistic, the layoffs at Disney might be standing in the way of a renewal.

Chad Coleman, who portrays Klyden on the sci-fi series, suggested to Bleeding Cool [via DigitalSpy] that it’s time for a campaign level push much like viewers of The Expanse did when it was cancelled and then saved by Amazon Prime.

"“How about we do a social media push where millions of people let them know? That’s the thing we’re looking for because it happened with The Expanse when it was tangible and on Syfy. That’s how it got picked up on Prime because of movements like that. Again, another rabid fanbase.”"

A social push for The Orville has been ongoing since the end of season three

Not long after season three of the series ended, fans began a #renewtheorville hashtag on Twitter, and the fervor for the show hasn’t waned. Recently, a fan shared that the series was the #2 watched show on Hulu, and the hashtag has continued trending at various times. But we don’t know if either of those things will make a difference to the executives at Disney.

So what Chad Coleman is suggesting is essentially already happening and has been happening since August of 2022, and so far, there’s been little news. Though he suggested going to the extreme and having someone fly a plane around with “Renew The Orville,” at this point, that could very well be a waste of money.

"“We want everybody else to generate to that level, and that’s why I tell people all the time for The Orville, ‘How about you guys? You put a campaign together to get somebody to fly a plane around and say: ‘Renew it’.”"

If Disney doesn’t have it in the budget to renew the series for ten episodes, perhaps it can give us a few to wrap up the remaining storylines. Though The Orville ended on a positive note with Claire and Isaac’s marriage, not everyone got a storybook ending. It would be a shame if fans didn’t get closure, and we can only hope the executives will take that into consideration when deciding the series’ future.
