Could Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Enterprise be crossing over?
It’s been 18 years since Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled. The show ended in 2005 due to middling ratings and a massive budget, something television provider UPN could not contend with any longer. Other shows were doing as well, if not better than Enterprise in the ratings, and doing so with significantly smaller budgets. The fanbase wasn’t there, and UPN knew it. So Enterprise came to an end. Yet, 18 years later, we may see elements of that show once again on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
That’s right, despite 18 real-years passing and 104 years passing in-universe, Strange New Worlds co-showrunner, Akiva Goldsman, is not ruling out that Enterprise may see some shine in the upcoming season of Strange New Worlds.
Goldsman spoke to Den of Geek about possibly seeing another crossover happen that didn’t involve Lower Decks, saying;
"At the beginning of each season, we blue-sky the hell out of it. And we always leave so many episodes on the table, and many of them are [crossovers]. I mean, there are different ways, depending on the species or technology, that folks from Enterprise [the prequel series] could still be around. Obviously, we could time-travel into the future. What if we brought back John de Lancie as Q…or as Trelane? We think about those crossovers all the time. And, as you know, this season, one of those episodes is coming."
Could Star Trek: Strange New Worlds crossover with Star Trek: Enterprise?
There are several different ideas pitched here, from the proposed Enterprise crossover to retconning Trelane as Q and time travel. Personally, if it’s as easy of a cop-out as “time travel”, I think Goldsman is going to ruffle some feathers. You’re promising some pretty major things, and then, “time travel”, whichever show does? That seems hacky at best.
But retconning Trelane, or dare I believe in a little the idea, bringing back Enterprise in some form? It’d be hard to believe that 150-something-year-old Jonathan Archer is still alive, but hey, I’d pretend to buy that if they pulled it off.
Likely it’d be T’Pol, as Vulcans live a long time, and if it is, I wouldn’t be mad. She was a great character. Regardless of who or how the crossover happens, I think I speak for all Enterprise fans when I say that anything we get that highlights that show would be welcomed.
Enterprise was one of the least respected shows while it aired, and its greatness is only now being given the time of day.
