The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds shows what could be the beginning of a strange romance.

The amazing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds trailer offered a fast sneak peek at what we have to look forward to this season beginning June 15. And some of the scenes we saw were quite surprising, most especially the almost kiss between Lt. James T. Kirk and Lt. La’an Noonien Singh who is the Chief of Security aboard the Enterprise.

Take a look for yourself at 1:32 in the trailer below. It’s clear Kirk and his future nemesis’ descendant grow quite close this season. Of course, this is long before Kirk faces off with Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek: The Original Series’ “Space Seed,” and it doesn’t just change canon, it turns it upside down.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds isn’t opposed to changing canon for the story

But this particular romance, if that’s what it turns out to be, has more ramifications than the romance between Spock and Nurse Chapel which was also seen in the trailer. If this is more than just a kiss, Captain Kirk would have recognized Khan’s last name in the future. Depending on how the romance plays out, this should have had an effect on how he reacts to Khan.

Would Captain Kirk have told Khan about the romance with his ancestor? Probably not, but however things end between the couple, as they inevitably will, will cast a different light on Kirk’s interaction with the super-villainous Khan. Or maybe, as Kirk was quite the womanizer as captain of the Enterprise, Lt. Singh would only be a vague memory, though I highly doubt it.

Wherever Strange New Worlds takes this romance, it’s going to affect the fans more than it ever can the future between Khan and Singh, but it does add a nice touch of “what is going on” to season two.

Next. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds could continue for seven years. dark
