Patrick Stewart is pitching a farewell movie for Star Trek: The Next Generation
Patrick Stewart isn’t done with Star Trek: The Next Generation or his time as Admiral Picard
Though Patrick Stewart just wrapped three seasons of playing Admiral Jean-Luc Picard on the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard, he isn’t closing the door on a return to the character, especially since the series ended on such a high note. In fact, season three exceeded fan expectations with thousands upon thousands calling for a spin-off series with Jeri Ryan’s character, Seven of N,ine at the helm of the new Enterprise.
Though it might be quite some time before we hear anything about Star Trek: Legacy, Stewart has already pitched a “Picard-based movie.” He told Indiewire that it wouldn’t necessarily be all about Admiral Picard, but the entire crew from The Next Generation.
"“I think we could do a movie, a ‘Picard’-based movie.’ Now not necessarily at all about Picard but about all of us. And to take many of those wonderful elements, particularly from Season 3 of ‘Picard’ and take out of that what I think could be an extraordinary movie. I keep telling people and mentioning it, and so far there’s been no eager response, but it might well happen. And that would be I think a very appropriate way to say, ‘And goodbye folks.’"
One more movie with Patrick Stewart and the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation would be welcome
Though many fans have already said their goodbyes to the fabulous crew of the Enterprise when the credits began to roll as all of them were gathered around the poker table, none of us would be adamantly opposed to one more hurrah, especially if the movie was written by Terry Matalas. As the showrunner of Picard, Matalas brought back the TNG characters in a way we could not have even imagined. He created a season that was far more than just something to pacify fans.
And if there is one thing the final season of Picard taught us, it’s that this crew does have more adventures in them. Every actor brought their absolute A-game to the series and pulled no punches bringing these characters back to life. We had the chance to see them in a new light, and most of us liked it, which is why no one would be complaining about a follow-up movie. This group of actors is in a lot of our hearts, and though saying a final, no-doubt-about-it farewell would be bittersweet, we’d still cherish more time to spend with them.
