We’re looking at some of the best fathers’ that Star Trek had to offer.
It’s Father’s Day. A day when we get to celebrate the men in our life that helped raise us, protect us, and love us. They deserve a day to be acknowledged for all the work they do to make our lives better. That’s why we’re taking another look at the best fathers that Star Trek has to offer.
Now, this is at least the second time this website has covered this topic, and some names you may expect to see may not be on the list this time around. So before you go running off demanding to know why Benjamin Sisko isn’t on this list, click the banner just below this.
We’re only covering three fathers, and that means some names will be left out. Be it for one reason or another. These are the three we’re looking at this year.
Tom Paris
We don’t know much about Tom Paris as a father, whose daughter Miral was born during the events of the Voyager series finale (Endgame). What we do know is that he was able to single-handily ensure her safety, as well as the entire crew’s safety, as he flew the Voyager through a transworp conduit, with the Borg hot on his tail. He single-handily saved his daughter in her first moments of life. I’d say that’s a pretty grand gesture from father to daughter.
Tuvok
While Tuvok may be a slightly out-there choice, as he’s a very even-tempered man, he shows his love for his children quite regularly. Whenever prompted to open up, Tuovk always seems to talk highly about his wife, and more specifically in this case, his children. As a Vulcan, he doesn’t say much, but what he does says speaks volumes. He clearly misses his children and this manifests itself in the episode “Innocence” from the show’s second season. He cares for the child-like aliens and tries to asway their concerns while figuring out what’s happening around them. He clearly saw these children as no different than his own. And even when finding out the truth, refused to leave them in their hour of need.
Miles O’Brien
Most dads will never have to survive on an alien moon with random little ones or fly a spaceship through Borg-invested space while their daughters are being born. It’s hard to relate to them, but not Miles O’Brien. O’Brien is the one man in Starfleet that any regular Joe Schmo can relate to, as long as you don’t talk about how bad of a day you had; as Miles will always top you. As a father, he’s a very relatable one. He cares about his wife and children deeply and shows his children that even as an adult you still have time to grow and change. He’s not a perfect man, but he is one fine father.
