You’ll soon be able to find out what Seven of Nine has been up to in between Star Trek’s Voyager and Picard.
Star Trek: Picard’s final season was most known for the reunion of The Next Generation cast. It was a big to-do and featured the major players back in the saddle once again. What often gets overlooked now, is that the show also brought back Jeri Ryan to the franchise. The same franchise she walked away from after the end of Voyager.
Ryan, who played Seven of Nine on Voyager was infamously supposed to be involved in Star Trek: Nemesis, but Ryan walked away from the franchise, not wanting to be type-casted into the character. She would go on to join Boston Public.
It’d be nearly 20 years before she’d return to Trek. Yet, she did, as part of the original cast of Star Trek: Picard. And while we know what Ryan did for those 20-odd years between projects, we will now know what Seven of Nine did as well.
Seven of Nine to feature in a new Star Trek: Picard novel
Debuting on Feb. 27, 2024, Star Trek: Picard: Firewall will feature Seven of Nine in a new story set two years after the Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant.
From the official Amazon page;
"Two years after the USS Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven of Nine finds herself rejected for a position in Starfleet…and instead finds a new home with the interstellar rogue law enforcement corps known as the Fenris Rangers. The Rangers seem like an ideal fit for Seven—but to embrace this new destiny, she must leave behind all she’s ever known, and risk losing the most important thing in her life: her friendship with Admiral Kathryn Janeway."
The book is being written by David Mack, who on June 11 said the manuscript for the book was about halfway done. The story will follow Seven of Nine after being rejected from Starfleet for an unknown reason.
She’ll reportedly join up with the Fenris Rangers and in doing so, will strain her relationship with Kathryn Janeway.
The book will help bridge the gap between Voyaer and Picard, but it wasn’t exactly met with overwhelming support upon its initial pitch. Mack stated that the higher-ups involved took three years to greenlight this story.
So hopefully, it lives up to the wait.
