Quentin Tarantino makes a choice between Star Trek and Star Wars

While many viewers can appreciate the differences between both franchises and love them equally, others feel like there has to be a line drawn in the sand, that one has to be greater than the other. Director Quentin Tarantino certainly thinks of one higher than the other and didn’t hesitate to share his opinion with Fandomwire, but, in all fairness, he has a really good reason for choosing Star Trek over Star Wars—William Shatner.

"“It’s why I like Star Trek more than Star Wars because William Shatner’s not in Star Wars. I think it’s one of the greatest performances in the history of episodic television, of a series lead, and rightly so, because very few series leads have ever gotten the opportunity to play all the different wild, crazy things.”"

The director has been such a fan of Shatner’s that, at one time, he tried to watch everything that Shatner did after Star Trek, including his guest starring roles as well as the movies and television series he was in before Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Suffice it to say the director is a fan.

No one can fault Quentin Tarantino for his choice and the reason for it.

The director will always be a Star Trek fan because of the original Captain James T. Kirk and had even written a script for the next Star Trek movie, which is, as of this day, still on hold. Tarantino shared that his idea was Pulp Fiction in space, a unique idea because there is no science fiction movie that had everything he intended to put in it. Surprisingly, William Shatner told Express [via CBR] that he would reprise his role as Captain Kirk for Tarantino’s movie.

Alas, Tarantino’s idea didn’t move forward (and neither has the movie), but that doesn’t lessen the director’s appeal for Star Trek or William Shatner. And perhaps, if the rumored mini-series Tarantino is directing is about Star Trek, he’ll be able to get Shatner on board for a reprisal of Captain Kirk.
