Will Star Trek be at San Diego Comic-Con in July?

July is known for many things, from the Fourth of July to Major League Baseball’s All-Star break and what usually ends up being peak vacation travel for many Americans. Yet, for geeks like us, July is also known for the annual Comic-Con event in San Diego, California.

Every July, the San Diego Comic-Con event hosts the world’s leaders in film, television, comics, and more, and for the better part of two decades, many have used the event to unveil trailers, sneak peeks, convention-exclusive content, and of course the ever popular panels. The panels are usually the major attraction from year to year, as they’re reliable and aren’t dependent on what’s currently popular, but what sells.

Sometimes these panels can be modified question and answer forums, and other times they can be where major outfits like Marvel, DC Comics and yes, even Star Trek, unveil new content for fans to get hyped about. This year’s comic con may be no different in that regard, as it’s been announced that Star Trek will have a serious presence at the event this year.

Would aliens really just look like us with pointy ears or ridge noses? Since the beginning of Star Trek, exploring strange new worlds has been synonymous with meeting fascinating new species—friendly or less friendly . . . Star Trek shows us life as we know it and as we’ve never seen it before, and examining the science behind both can teach us a lot about where we come from, where we’re going, and what we might meet—out there. Dr. Ashley Poust (paleontologist at the San Diego Natural History Museum), Dr. Danielle de Carle (researcher and lecturer at the University of Toronto), and Dr. Amanda Jack (biochemist and biophysicist at SyntheX) take a deep dive into the reality, the fiction, and the possibilities of this Trek-tastic biology these last 56 years.
