How a Star Trek fan got a pair of John de Lancie’s underwear

Many Star Trek fans are collectors, but one, in particular, collected something extremely personal over twenty years ago.

Way back in 2001,  the Voyager: The Return convention was held in England at the Norbreck Castle Hotel. It was the year Voyager was coming to an end, and Kate Mulgrew gave free autographs to everyone who attended.

The convention was a lot of fun, and it included a charity auction with proceeds going to benefit Alzheimer’s research, a cause close to Mulgrew’s heart. (She’s a member of the Alzheimer’s Association National Advisory Council.) While she offered a signed script of Hunters, according to Whatculture, Keegan de Lancie, John de Lancie’s son, was there with something a little closer to home…or skin, rather.

Keegan de Lancie was at the convention to offer something personal for a Star Trek fan willing to part with some dough.

Keegan had a role in Star Trek: Voyager, playing Q’s mischievous and troublemaking son, Q Junior, which is kind of appropriate since he auctioned off a pair of his dad’s underwear with a special inscription.

“To boldly go” was written on the front of the underwear, but it was the back that got most of the attention as it bore the phrase:  “John de Lancie (shat) sat here.”  Keegan insisted the pair was clean but added that they had been worn, presumably by the actor himself. Then, to prove the cleanliness of the underwear, he put them over his head.

But, honestly, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as, if it’s about Star Trek and is up on the auction block, it’s most likely going to sell as Jeri Ryan’s Bord drone undersuit did for over $1400. We don’t know who bought de Lancie’s drawers nor how much they paid for them, but we do know they obviously thought the item was worth their hard-earned money. What a collector’s item!
