Who played the Orion science vessel captain in Star Trek’s “Those Old Scientists”?
By Chad Porto
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds brought in a well-versed character actor for “Those Old Scientists”.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has developed a well-earned reputation for bringing in great talent to play key characters during the show’s run. While names like Ethan Peck (Spock), and Anson Mount (Christopher Pike), are clearly great talents, the show has succeeded beyond just the starring names we’ve seen. Names like Bruce Horak, and Paul Wesley have come in and really stolen the show.
But it doesn’t stop there. In “Those Old Scientists” we got to meet a minor character named Harr Caras, a little-known Orion ship captain who claimed to not be a pirate. Though, their actions during the events of the show seem to suggest differently. After stealing a portal that the Enterprise needed, the two sides would eventually come to a deal where Caras would get credit for discovering the portal if the Orions would allow Captain Pike and his crew to use the portal once.
In doing so, the Orion’s history was changed forever, with the alien race being able to be seen as more than just pirates going forward. All because of Harr Caras.
Who played Harr Caras in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ “Those Old Scientists”
Harr Caras came across as a very likable side character in the crossover episode, a hard feat considering how hard it is to convey authenticity in such limited action. And while you may not recognize the name, you surely will know that the man who played Harr Caras was Greg Bryk.
Bryk isn’t a name you’d recognize but he’s been in over 100 different movies, shows, or games in his career.
He’s appeared in the Far Cry series, playing Joseph Seed, as well as sci-fi (and SyFy) shows, Handmade’s Tale, Channel Zero, Wynonna Earp, Fargo, XIII, Nikita, and the werewolf show; Bitten.
