Captain Shaw had an extra line of dialogue in Star Trek: Picard death scene
Though Star Trek: Picard ended several months ago, fans are still talking about the series’ final season.
They’re also talking about the amazing new characters that were introduced to help round out that final season. One of those was Todd Stashwick’s Captain Liam Shaw. The commanding officer of the USS Titan, which used to be Captain Will Riker’s (Jonathan Frakes) ship, Shaw was gruff, unpleasant, sarcastic, and a strict rule follower…at first. But like most Starfleet officers in Admiral Picard’s inner circle, Shaw veered from his straight line to help prevent Starfleet’s demise. And it ended up getting him killed, but the scene also provided some redemption for the character.
In Shaw’s death scene, he finally acknowledged his second in command by the name she had chosen—Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) instead of using her birth name of Annika Hansen, which he insisted she go by aboard his ship. He sacrificed himself so the remainder of his crew and Picard’s friends could continue their mission to protect Starfleet and its many members.
Star Trek: Picard offered Captain Shaw redemption in his last moments.
In his final moments, Captain Shaw transferred command of the USS Titan to Commander Seven of Nine. It was his way of finally showing her he believed she belonged in Starfleet. Originally, though, according to Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas, Shaw had an extra line of dialogue which would have also shown that he hadn’t lost his sarcastic edge. [via Screenrant]
“Don’t touch my stuff” was classic Captain Shaw, and though it was deleted for whatever reason, Matalas revealing it now just shows that he had intended for Shaw to go out on his own terms, still a captain and still leaving one last command in place.
