Zachary Quinto was one of the headliners at Star Trek Las Vegas 2023

As the actor who played Mr. Spock on the three J.J. Abrams’ films, Zachary Quinto was a welcome guest onstage for Star Trek Las Vegas 2023. Sticking to the SAG-AFTRA strike rules, the actor couldn’t talk in much detail about his work on Star Trek or any other projects, but he was able to provide fans with a first-time meeting between him and the current actor who plays Mr. Spock on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. As Quinto’s panel was wrapping up, STLV brought Ethan Peck out onto the stage. Quinto told the crowd that this was the nature of the [Star Trek] universe.

"Quinto: This is great, right? This is the nature of the [Star Trek] universe. It evolves and changes and we all bring our own perspectives and experience to it. Nothing is more exciting than that.Peck: This is momentous. It is awesome to be with you"

Star Trek Las Vegas gave fans something that has yet to be seen in the Star Trek franchise

When the panel was coming to a close, Quinto told the crowd that he was happy to be able to share the stage with the person he’s passing the mantle to.

"I just want to say before we finish up, how grateful I feel to be here and how I feel like my experience in this world, it’s evolved into other iterations and other forums. And to be able to share the stage with the person to whom I am now passing the mantle to in a lot of ways, who is engaging you all in these stories from the perspective of this character now into the future. It’s really exciting. It’s really gratifying. You all are really a truly wonderful fan base. And I feel heartened and just optimistic. There’s a lot of reasons and a lot of ways in which we can feel really discouraged about humanity, but this collection of people in this franchise and what it’s based on is not one of them. And so I feel really happy to be here with you all."

And Peck has carried the mantle well, excelling in the role that Leonard Nimoy began in Star Trek: The Original Series. And with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds already having been renewed for season three, and the success of season two, there’s no reason to suspect that we won’t continue to see him for a long time to come.

Quinto served the role well on the big-screen, and, as he said in the panel, even if they are unable to return, the Kelvin timeline crew had a great run. And he was thankful for what had come out of the movies—his friendship with Leonard Nimoy and his family and the entire cast as well as his brotherhood with Chris Pine. Star Trek: The Original Series notwithstanding, It seems like Star Trek just has a way of making a family out of cast members.
