Ever since Star Trek: Voyager started airing in 1995, the relationship between Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay has captivated fans.

Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay both made their debuts in 1995 with Star Trek: Voyager and instantly made an impact on the entire fandom. The “will they, won’t they” of their dynamic became a quiet, but sometimes touched-upon topic of not only the fans but the showrunners themselves.  They explored the possibility a handful of times, namely in the season two episode “Resolutions”.

In the episode, the pair become infected by an illness that will kill them if they leave a specific planet, so they’re forced to be left behind. No longer bound by things of etiquette and rank, the duo become very close in a near-romantic way. But before they could further explore their feelings, a cure is found and the pair return to their old ways.

Neither would ever, seemingly, fall for another person during their time on Voyager, save for a brief dalliance between Chakotay and Seven of Nine, so when Prodigy launched Chakotay across the universe and into the future, Janeway become unrelenting in her quest to bring him home.

It’s a dynamic that fans love and one that will be further explained in Star Trek: Prodigy season two.

Kathryne Janeway and Chakotay will have their dynamic further explored in the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy

At the 57-year mission in Las Vegas (viaTrekMovie.com), Prodigy executive producers Kevin, and Dan Hageman spoke about bringing the two together once again, and how emotional the reunion of the two will further end up becoming, with Kevin Hageman saying first;

"For those of you who’ve seen Season 1, there was quite the tease of Chakotay and Janeway. And I know it’s very unresolved. And we are promising in season 2, we’re going to complete this story, and what we’re doing with them is absolutely fantastic.Later, when asked what they were most excited about in season 2, both brothers returned to the Janeway/Chakotay storyline resolution, with Dan offering some insights into a key scene:"

And then Dan Hageman followed up by saying;

"…I have to share a little story, our voice director [Brooke Chalmers] who sometimes reads opposite the actors. And we had Kate Mulgrew in recording and he was reading for Chakotay. And they were reading this scene together. And our friend Brooke just starts crying as he’s reading opposite Kate, because it’s just so powerful."

So while we may not know how their story ends, the two will seemingly have one of the more emotional moments in the franchise’s history at some point in season two.
